HISTORY of Lake Hartwell

Hartwell Lake and Dam, completed in 1962 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, stand as a landmark achievement in flood control and hydroelectric power generation. Building a Landmark

The lake and Hartwell dam were created through the Flood Control Act of 1950 and constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Over the years, Hartwell Lake has become a premier recreational destination, hosting significant events like the 1979 World Bass Fishing Tournament and numerous Bassmaster Classic tournaments.
